Are You a Genie in a Bottle?

Oh...
You feel your brain's been locked up tight
Writing good code at only at night
Waiting for a job
To challenge you

You're cracking your knuckles, trying to code my way
But that don't mean I'll hire you right away
Laddy, Laddy, Laddy
(Lady, Lady, Lady?)

Yo yo...
Your mouth's saying hire me
Oh woe...
But my brain's saying let's see C

If you wanna work for me, laddy
There's a price you pay
I'm a stickler for design
You gotta write code the right way
If you want an ADA
I can make your wish come true
You gotta make a big impression
I gotta like what you do

I'm a stickler for design, laddy
Gotta write code the right way, money
I'm a stickler for design, laddy
Add, add, add, and then cut out

The iPhone's coming and AAPL's so not low
One more release of Library to go
Waiting for someone
Who impresses me

Fingers racing at the speed of light
And not just because I'm in a Twitter fight
Laddy, Laddy, Laddy
(Lady, Lady, Lady?)

Yo yo...
I only have one engineer to go
Oh woe...
But I'm still going to hire slow

If you wanna work for me
And then Apple someday
I'm a stickler for design
You gotta write code the right way
If you want to get low pay
I can make your wish come true
Send me sample code, laddy
And maybe I'll hire you

I'm a stickler for design, laddy
Gotta write code the right way, money
I'm a stickler for design, laddy
Send, send, send your sample out

Thy poetry doth please but doth not scan.
Though verse cannot conform to BNF,
The form as well as rhyme must have a plan:
Free verse doth make me cry, 'Enough's enough!'
A poem is not mere rhyming words enwrapped.
Just so with C and Ada: to construct
Vocabulary legal but not apt,
Will lead to the conclusion one is fuct.
An app which wrongly useth API's,
Emits exceptions on the console by the score.
And far from consolation, we despise
When CPU's too frequently dump core.
Though code is writ by fools like you and me
I trow only a poet can make a trochee.

Wil,

On an aside, the code you post, is it also subject to the same creative commons license you link to? I would like to use one of your NSTreeController categories if that's possible.

Thanks al lot!

The code samples don't require attribution except where otherwise specified (the code from OmniAppKit is obviously subject to Omni's license). Only the text is subject to the CC license specified.

I need to make this clearer.

Thanks,
-Wil

Software makes a huge part of the modern civilization, but people who develop it are unknown, and I mean that in a big way. There is a huge gap in the literature and other media coverage of what it takes to write a piece of software, how much guts it takes out of you, how many sacrifices you have to make, and how joyful it is. You can do it Wil. Write it down. You own it, Wil.
